Do you ever find yourself caught in the trap of not enough? Not successful enough, not organized enough, not thin enough, just not quite good enough. If so, then you know that this can be a very stressful and unpleasant place to be.
Finding yourself in this place on a continual basis is draining. The pressure you put on yourself to keep building, to be better, to accomplish the next goal, can rob you of the present moment and cause you to miss out on acknowledging your path, your successes’ and your own wisdom.
Continuously seeking outside of yourself for success, the accomplishment of the next goal, the next thing on the list, can become an unhealthy compulsion.
None of this is to say we shouldn’t set goals, have dreams or be working towards something that is important to us. Rather, it is when we lose sight of our well being or trade our well being for outer accomplishments that we need to take stock.
Striving for success can consume you if you are not intentional about what you are doing and why you are doing it. Revisiting your intentions and personal agenda daily will serve as a good reminder of what is important to you.
We all easily forget to stop. In this busy, always on life, it is more important then ever to pause, to realign with our values and beliefs, and to connect with others, with ourselves and with life.
Success: what you can do
Deepak Chopra shares his insights about success in this way:
“Success has to be holistic. It must embrace your vision of yourself and open the path to a lifetime of personal growth. Every step of success depends on one thing: self-awareness.”
He goes on to suggest that we take time to answer these questions and listen to our answers:
Self Awareness: what you can do
The beauty of this life is that we all get to choose, define and pursue what is meaningful and important to us. Take the time when you are not feeling like "enough" to pause and take stock of what you really need.
May you find that place within that is enough, may your inner life match your outer life, may you have genuine and meaningful success, and may you continue to share your heart and gifts with us in a way that feeds your heart and spirit.
