Saturday morning....pouring rain. My first thought was NO, not doing it.
Let me explain. I signed on with a group of women, and a running coach, to participate in the Oceanside Mothers Day Run in Parksville, BC this year.
Saturday was scheduled to be our first training session. Did I mention it was pouring rain?
As I sat sipping my coffee by the warm wood stove, I wondered what the heck I was thinking when I signed up for this....after all....I hate running...I am a sissy in the rain...combine the two and there I had a perfect storm for excuse making! They went something like this:
By the time I had conjured up a handful of reasons why I should stay home, a text came in from my running coach, Ms. Marian. It cheerfully stated that Yes, we would be going out today, and bring a change of clothes for after. (Can you guess what I was thinking as I read that? *%#! )
After some more battling back and forth in my head, and another cup of coffee, and a phone call with Ms. M, I made the decision to go and do it. Why? Because I know that when we are pushing ourselves towards a goal it can be damn uncomfortable and hard at times. There are times we work to convince ourselves we don't have time, or we don't feel like it, or we will just do it tomorrow. Sometimes that's legit, and sometimes we are just figuring out ways to avoid our fear or discomfort.
No matter what goals we are working towards, in life or business, there will be times when you bump up against "I don't feel like doing this". Those are the times when it is important to figure out what's up. You need to tap into how important the goal is to you. What are you willing to work through in order to move one step closer to your goal?
I was glad I had coached myself through my discomfort on Saturday. The feeling of accomplishment outweighed being cold and wet.
I was happy that I followed through, and like a good coach , Ms. Marian was encouraging and happy to see me show up and work through it.
oh ya, did I mention it was raining?
