Our minds and intellect can only take us so far. I believe this to be true. Operating only from the mind is limited. Connecting and listening to both heart and mind is where we find true guidance and wisdom. Our ego likes to fool us into thinking that our minds are the only vehicle we have to take us to our goals.
I love this story from Sonia Choquette's book Soul Lessons:
Sonia was struggling with her ego. She was operating from her mind and finding some success but she knew what she was achieving wasn't allowing for her full potential. As she was relating her story to a mentor of hers, he simply chuckled.
He pulled a beautiful lamp from his closet and asked her what she thought of it. She thought it was lovely. He set the lamp on a table and asked her to plug it in. When Sonia reached for the cord she found it had no plug in, no power source.
She looked at her mentor and said, I can't plug it in, it has no power source. Exactly he said....no matter how beautiful an object is, unless it's connected to an energy source, it can't fully express what it was made for.
I like this story because it is a great reminder of the power of our heart and spirit. We are trained in western culture to often use our grit, determination and will to achieve something. This can work but in my experience it is tiring. If I remember to engage the energy of my heart, and connect it to the power of my mind, the results are different. I feel more in alignment with who I am and with my purpose.
"Your inner intelligence is your power source and it gives you the energy and ability to express your full creative potential." ~ Sonia Choquette
